To mark the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Gear, the BBC gathers assessments from research into wearable technology — including from the Wearable Computing Lab at ETH Zürich, the environment from which antavi emerged.
The central question is whether smartwatches will endure as a category in their own right — and what value can be drawn from data captured on the body. The methodological line — robust activity recognition from heterogeneous sensor sources — continues to inform antavi’s solutions for crowd sensing and event safety to this day.
