How do I assign an incident?
Turn a report into a task with an owner: assign, accept, complete — and why you assign to groups, not individuals.
Assignment is the job of incident management: a report becomes a task with someone responsible for it.
The flow in the app
- Open the incident: In the Activity Dashboard (“Open activities”) or via its marker on the map
- Assign: Choose the target group (e.g. medical, security, technical) — you assign to groups, not to individuals. The incident then shows “Handed over to …”.
- Accept: The receiving group takes over the incident — so everyone can see who is on it
- Complete: Once resolved, the incident is closed; if needed it can be reactivated or a follow-up action created
Why groups instead of individuals?
During an operation, people change shifts and positions. The group remains — and every group member sees the open tasks of their group.
Best practice for the operations centre
- Triage instead of solving immediately: At peak times, reports arrive simultaneously. The backlog lets you prioritise briefly and then assign deliberately — instead of juggling everything in your head.
- Watch the status: The dashboard shows all pending items and status reports on the map. An incident that stays “Open” for a long time is a signal.
- Use roles: Observers watch, users work through tasks, editors configure the mission — so responsibility stays clear.
